Although we can make no guarantee that every individual will be successful, we will do our best to arm each and everyone with the knowledge, tools and support necessary to establish their own business. It has been an absolute pleasure to travel the country and meet such talented, creative individuals!

Donna in North Carolina:

Hi Julie, I just wanted to let you know that I just completed my first payed redesign! I helped a friend rearrange an extra bedroom into an area that she could also use as an office with a table for deep tissue massages. It turned out beautiful and she was very pleased. I could not have done this without the training that you provided in your workshop. I even felt prepared for the pre shopping portion of the redesign. Thank you so much for all you did for us last month!

Kate in Virginia:

Julie, I have to tell you that your workshop and training was wonderful! Worth every penny! I spent months researching other training programs and yours was the one I chose and I am so glad I did! Not only did I have a great time and meet new friends, but the instruction you provided was perfect for what I needed in order to establish my own business! In a matter of three months, I have been able to set up a wonderful business and have clients contacting me from near and far! Beautiful homes are truly my passion and I have you to thank for providing the training I needed in order to make an income doing what I truly love to do. I thank you even more for continuing to provide guidance and tips even after the class and helping me along the way! Julie, you rock!

We are continuously working toward helping our members succeed. We have added a monthly chat with voice, a separate chat group (to share ideas and help each other) and have recently begun planning our first annual conference. Check back for updates!

Hickory, NC Traveling Interior Redesign/Home Staging Workshop

We are happy to announce that the Hickory, North Carolina interior redesign/home staging workshop was a terrific success! We would also like to send a special thank you to Cheryl, the workshop coordinator. She did a fabulous job in coordinating the project homes and made the training one of our most spectacular ever!! Her website may be viewed at http://www.justheavenlydecor.com/

Not only did we learn all about interior redesign and home staging, but we also learned a little bit about interior painting. We were extremely fortunate to have another professional painter in the group and decided to go ahead and tackle the daunting task of painting a couple of rooms during the training. It was a great learning experience in that not only were we able to complete the color analysis, we actually dug in, rolled up our sleeves and rolled out the paint. It was a lot of work, very long days but extremely rewarding for all of us. The ladies involved were terrific and had no problem working harder than they ever thought they would. In case anyone is wondering, I did NOT share the painting experience with my insurance agent. I am certain that his head would have popped off once he realized that I was assuming the risk of four additional ladies, slinging paint brushes while climbing a rickety old wooden ladder! Oh well, what he doesn't know wont hurt him! The transformations were fabulous and the reveals were dynamite!

Thank you ladies for inviting me down to North Carolina to spend the week with you. It was an absolute pleasure working with each and every one!! I have to mention that the bbq was a real experience that I will NEVER forget. Thanks for the memory! LOL!

Check the website at http://www.allaboutredesign.com/ for updated information and new photos.

Comments from Becky (she traveled from Tennessee):

The Opportunity of a Lifetime!
The All About Redesign workshop was truly one of the best things I have ever done in my life and/or for myself. What a hands on learning experience! Everyday held an Interior Redesign task as it is seen on HGTV. I can’t even begin to touch on all that was taught, all that was learned and all that was shared! IT WAS TRULY AN OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFE TIME. The people that I met were as if I had known them all my life. What a wonderful group to have been blessed with! Kathy a professional painter, Donna a natural at interior redesign and Cheryl, thanks for being our sponsor and having such unbelievable accessories and for setting up the homes for each of the three days! (We even changed rooms by doing the painting)! Julie you are an amazing instructor! Thanks for your “All About Redesign Interior Decorating and Training Center!
For those of you that are interested in training, you will never find another as full of expertise as this one!!!
This is something I have wanted to do all my life and now I have the best hands on qualified certification anyone could ask for!!!
Thanks Julie and all of the girls!!! I’m looking forward to our conference!!
REBECCA B. OLTERMAN

Comments from Kathy (our professional painter):

Thank you so very much!! I don't know when I've had as much fun and worked so hard and loved every minute of it. It was a great pleasure to work with you and I soooooo appreciate all you did to put this workshop together. I got home just after midnight and was still so keyed up I couldn't sleep. I am really tired today but in a good way. I came away with great ideas, wonderful memories, new friends and worked with the best!! This was just the best and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I am so glad I chose your class, from all the others I could have chosen. I can't wait to see the other pics and can't wait to get started on my next project. I am looking at my own home in an entirely new light. I am just excited about the whole process. Again, I thank you and I will keep in touch. If you see the other girls today, please tell them how much I appreciate all that I learned from them and enjoyed every minute of trial and error all the way to victory. The rooms were just amazing and the faces of the clients at the reveals was just priceless. All About Redesign is Tops. Have a safe trip home and God bless you.

Home Staging/Redesign Workshop Scheduled in Hickory, North Carolina

We're gearing up for another Home Staging/Interior Redesign workshop and are headed to Hickory, North Carolina, September 12-14! Lori, the workshop coordinator did an outstanding job in locating our project homes. In fact, thanks to Lori's careful planning, we completed a total of ELEVEN room transformations! Everyone worked very hard but had a lot of fun in the process. The final day was the the most rewarding for me personally because we were invited into the home of a single father with two sons. Everyone knows how typical bachelors live so you can imagine the challenge. Our new ladies were up to the task and did an outstanding job! The reveal was my all time personal favorite, so far. It rivaled anything I have seen on HGTV and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. I am talking tears of joy... It was simply amazing and I am so glad to have been part of it.

The ladies were the greatest! It was truly an honor to work with them and any client would be fortunate to have one of these women decorate/redecorate their home. They are each professional, creative and very talented individuals. I do highly recommend each and every one.

Lori, the workshop coordinator is located near Richmond, Virginia and will be working in the surrounding areas. The demand for Interior Redesign and Home Staging professionals is fast increasing as many busy homeowners are seeking affordable decorating solutions. Most projects can be completed in one afternoon... For less than the cost of replacing a sofa!” She goes on to state “It is my passion to assist other people in changing and improving their lives. Having been a single mother, I know how difficult it can be to sometimes even pay the bills. I have created an affordable and professional training program that does just that. Now that my children are raised I can travel more easily than many of my students so I thought, why not?”

The All About Redesign Center currently has training classes scheduled for St. Louis, Missouri – October, 2006 and Lake Havusu City, Arizona – January, 2007. Workshops require a minimum of three students with a maximum of six for optimal hands-on learning. Included in the workshop is a 100 plus page illustrated training manual, and all the decorating tools and supplies a professional decorator needs. The training program also provides important business start-up and marketing tips to ensure each student’s success. Upon completion of the training program each student will become eligible to join another nationally recognized decorating organization, thus gaining instant credibility! Compare other Interior Redesign and Home Staging Programs and you will see why the All About Redesign Center is sweeping the nation! There are several different facts you should discover when selecting a training course. You will want to invest your money wisely and choose the redesign training that best suits your needs, lifestyle and budget.
Since the alternative field of Interior Redesign is fast growing and projected to gain in recognition now is the time to get started! With the popularity of budget conscience interior decorating programs, redesign professionals are in demand.
Many training centers are beginning to pop up all over the Nation as this affordable decorating field is beginning to take off! Following are some important questions you should ask of each potential trainer. By following this simple guideline, you can be certain you are getting the best experience possible.
1. Ask the trainer what their credentials and experience are in the field.

2. Find out exactly what is involved during the training. Will you be involved with hand-on training and if so how many rooms?

3. If the training includes a manual, ask how many pages and what the font size is. Anything more than 12 pt. is usually not necessary.

4. Where will you be trained? Is it an actual classroom setting or held inside the instructor's home.

5. Will you have actual client contact? This is extremely important if you have never dealt with a client of your own.

6. What tools and or marketing materials are included with the training? Important to consider when estimating your start-up costs.

7. Will you receive a certificate of completion or is some type of certification offered? Find out if this is included in the training or an additional charge.

8. How accessible will the trainer be upon completion of the program. Will you be able to contact him/her with questions that may arise!

9. What will you gain by their affiliation? Important to discover if there are any annual fees or dues going forward.

10. Will you be listed on the website you most likely found the training at? If so, request all cost's involved.

A reputable instructor will gladly offer you all this information before you agree to anything. Be very skeptical of someone that you do not feel is being completely up-front and honest with you.
Finally, I recommend contacting at least one previous student to get a referral for the training program.
~ Julie
www.allaboutredesign.com

Home Staging - Dealing With Sensitvie Situations

What do you do if you are a real estate professional and you have just walked into a home you know can sell for more money with just a few simple changes?

Selling a home often takes the homeowner through several emotional stages. Leaving the place they have called home and love exactly the way it is can be difficult for many people. The last thing your client wants to hear is that their home isn't "good enough."

When making common sense -everyone should know- suggestions you often walk a fine line of being insulting or helpful. You don't want to risk a losing a potential new listing by trying to help your client face the facts. This is where a home staging expert can help! Teaming-up with a knowledgeable professional will increase your bottom line and will help you obtain new listings.
When working with a staging pro, let them do the dirty work for you.

Examples:
Make the beds everyday.
Remove the dated wallpaper.
Wash the windows and walls.Do the dishes and clean daily.
Remove family photos...etc.
Neutralize and de-clutter.

Not only will the blame be squarely on the home stager if the property doesn't sell in two minutes, but you will remain the real estate professional they have hired.
Remember that you will want to work with a staging professional you get along with. They will be your second-string, so to speak. You want to work with only someone that will compliment you and reaffirm your clients choice to work with you!

Consider paying for the staging service yourself. You can offer this service as a signing gift and deduct it from your taxes. Either way, it is a win-win for the busy real estate agent. When trying to attract a potential buyer you want your home to stand out in this tightening market.
The only thing worse than NO picture is having a BAD picture listed. Remember... you never have a second chance to make a first impression and a picture is worth a thousand words?
Keep this in mind when having your home or listing photographed for the MLS and before posting it online.

Tips to remember before and during the photo shoot.

Curb appeal. This is often the first photo a potential buyer will view. If the home was listed during the winter months and not sold, update the picture to reflect the current season. If a buyer sees snow in the landscape, they immediately know the listing is old and wonder why.

The Kitchen. This is an extremely important room to everyone. For the photos sake...remove the magnets and children's artwork from the refrigerator! Also, hide the trash bin from sight. Nobody wants to look at the garbage, it is not attractive and leads to the conclusion that the space is small.

The Bedrooms. No matter the number of bedrooms in your property, you may want to consider neutralizing each one. A fresh coat of paint is a simple and affordable solution. Change that pink or blue child's room to a boring tan or taupe. It will immediately attract a larger audience of buyers. If you have wallpaper-remove it quick!

The Bath. Try to create a spa-like environment. This can be accomplished by placing towels with matching candles on the counter tops. Use a neutral palette and match the shower curtain. Remove all hygiene products!

Living and Family Rooms. First it is important to remove any unnecessary furniture and personal collections to make the space appear as large as possible. Hide all VHS tapes, DVD movies and audio accessories. Potential buyers do not care about your extensive collections. They want to visualize their own possessions in these rooms.

Laundry Room. For God's sake...hide the dirty laundry! Not only is this a reflection of your housekeeping skills but buyers will be turned-off to your home. Nobody wants to look at your dirty underwear. You do NOT want to leave that visual in a buyers mind!

Home staging is all about setting the "stage" for your property to put it in it's best light. Whether you are an agent or home seller, following the room by room tips will help you accomplish just that!
Author ~ Julie Rieman
Instructor ~ All ABout Redesign Decorating Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Interior Redesign Class ~ Ten Important Facts You Should Know

Interior Redesign Class ~ Ten Facts You Should Know

When searching online for a interior redesign training training, there are several centers to choose from. Which interior redesign training class, workshop or online course will be the right fit for you?
Following is a list of questions you should ask yourself and the prospective instructor to be certain you are making the best and most cost effective decision.
1. First and foremost, consider the credentials of the interior redesign training instructor. What are their decorating experience and affiliations?
2. Ask if the redesign training manual is actually written text or full of filler paper for you to take notes. Ask the font size too.
3. Find out if you will become eligible to join other professional affiliations or if this is forbidden.
4. Ask for a list of specific tools and decorating supplies the training workshop will provide.
5. Find out if there are any additional charges for a website posting.
6. Ask if there are any annual fees or charges to join the affiliation you are considering paying thousands of dollars to for your redesign training.
7. Ask if you will receive a certificate or certification upon successfully completing your redesign training. This information should be freely offered up-front...not after you have already committed.
8. Ask if there is any testing involved and if so, is it included in the course or a added on additional fee.
9. Factor into the tuition cost any additional travel and hotel requirements.
10. Ask if the redesign teacher will consider traveling to your town. Many will for a certain minimum number of students. This could save you lots of money!
Once you have done your research and had all these questions answered you will be able to make an informed and educated decision.
Author ~ Julie Rieman
Instructor~ The All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Interior Redesign and Home Staging Professional

Yulanda Grinnel with East Texas Designs ~ Decorator of the month!
East Dallas Designs covers ALL your interior decorating and home staging needs.
Specializing in interior redesign and home staging services.
Let us help you create an interior designers look for an ready-made price!
Yulanda is a Texas State certified designer with over 20 years of interior design experience! Often times we have too many items placed in our rooms. This tends to look cluttered and even messy. If you assimilate accessorizing your room with dressing yourself, decorating will become much easier! Think about your jewelry, handbag and shoes. You always make certain they coordinate. (well, most of us do) This is EXACTLY how you should think when "dressing" your room.
The first step in creating a room worthy of a decorating photo shoot is...Less is more. Instead of packing your space with several unnecessary items it is important showcase a few.
Select your favorite pieces and pack away others that are not so important to you.
Especially the ugly ones you have received as a gift from a good intentioned family member or friend.
Surrounding yourself with the items you love is important in creating that "home is my haven" feeling. Uneven groupings of one three five and seven are best for tabletops. This can include candles, books, framed photos, plants and just about anything you have. Keep your group tightly together and leave the remaining table void. If you are an avid collector consider purchasing a curio to place many similar pieces. Position your favorite items in front so you will see them at a glance. Remember that not everyone is as excited about your collections as you are. It is best to keep large collections under control so as to not overwhelm your space.
Color and texture play an important role in every design. You can introduce color quickly by placing a beautiful area rug in the center of your seating arrangement. This also adds texture and will change the acoustics of the room. Pillows and throws are a terrific way to add color and texture for very little money.
Remember how you dress yourself. If you would never wear big blue earrings with a small pearl necklace YOU CAN properly dress your room!
Good Luck and Happy Decorating!
Author ~ Julie Rieman
Teacher ~ All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Interior Redesign - What You Can Do In ONE Day!

Whether you decide to hire a Interior Redesign professional or drag your furniture around yourself, rearranging your furnishings is the most immediate course of change. Try to keep an open mind. Your sofa does NOT have to be placed against the longest wall. Consider repositioning all your large upholstered pieces.
Changing or rehanging artwork on the walls will go a long way in creating a new feel for your space. Try laying your wall groupings out on the floor before actually taking a hammer and nails to the wall! If the grouping is going behind the sofa, lay your pattern out on the floor in front of it. This is a great way to visualize the new look and not cause unnecessary damage to your walls!
Treat yourself to some fresh flowers or a new live plant! After this long winter it is a welcome introduction to spring. Every room should include a living plant to feel warm and inviting. Unless you are like me (and kill them) then buy a nice silk. Speaking from experience, Jo-Anne Fabrics carries a beautiful assortment!
My mother in law rearranges her room every spring and fall. She also changes her curtains seasonally. General Lighting
2. Task Lighting
3. Accent Lighting
General lighting is often times the light on the ceiling in the center of the room. Such as a Chandelier, Ceiling Fans, Recessed Cans or a Overhead Globe. This type rarely offers enough light to satisfy our everyday needs. General lighting is just that. General. This is usually not the only source in a typical room.
Task lighting is used for a specific task and in work areas where more light is required. The task might be putting a puzzle together or reading a book. A lamp placed next to a chair would be considered a task light. So are the under-cabinet lights that have become so popular.
Accent lighting can make a tremendous impact on the feel of your space. This type of lighting is commonly used to highlight a important piece of art or brighten a dark corner. Accent lights are the most fun to work with because you can accomplish a spectacular change for very little money. Accent lighting can dramatically improve the “feel” of the room.
Track lights are a great example of task and accent lighting. Longer Days... Warm Breezes... Rain Showers... Green Grass... Everything is heading toward beautiful outside but what about inside?
Now is a great time to get going on that deep cleaning. Clear the clutter, scrub the walls, clean the carpets, wash the windows and HAVE FUN!
The first order of business is clear the clutter! To quote William Morris “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” Yeah, right. That’s great to aspire to but in the real world let’s concern ourselves with clearing the counter and tabletops. Lose all the leftover Christmas decorations and any unsightly items that seem out of place. When it comes to addressing your walls, take a good critical look. Cobwebs and scuff marks aside, do the walls seem dingy? A fresh coat of paint is the least expensive way to breathe new life into your space. Changing from stark white to a soft neutral background will make the room more inviting. (Save leftover paint in a tightly sealed glass jar for future touch-ups) While cleaning your carpets your furniture is pulled out anyway so this is a great opportunity to rearrange it! Try to think outside the box. Place your largest piece at an angle and reload the rest of your furnishing in relation to it. It is amazing how a minor shift in placement can make a huge impact on your room. Contrary to popular belief, your upholstered pieces do NOT have to be placed against a wall. Windows...No matter how clean the room, a grimy window will draw attention and make the entire space feel dirty. Try using a squeegee for quick cleaning. These little inventions work great and leave no streaks! Now comes the fun. Shop your entire house for home accessories. Mix things up. Maybe the silk plant you have on the coffee table would look great in the dining room. Those candlesticks in the closet might make a perfect centerpiece alongside some stacked books. Consider moving a lamp from the master bedroom to the living room. Try to keep like items together for a designer look. Glass with glass, metal with metal, and similar color in groupings look best. Try some change. It won’t take long and does not cost a thing!
Thanks for reading!
Author Julie Rieman
Instructor ~The All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Interior Redesign - What 's All The Buzz?

Interior redesign is the art of creative furniture and accessory placement. How to make the most of a often overlooked but very important focal point.
When dressing a bookcase it is all about line, balance and scale! Typically a bookcase is the focal point in many rooms and should be given proper attention. Consider weeding out any books that are worn and tattered.. In fact, remove all paperbacks and store where they will not be seen. (These are not decorative items and should not be showcased.) Save only the best looking and most referenced books.
Positioning large items toward the top of the bookcase will give the appearance of being top-heavy and make the piece look unstable. Huge mistake! Position largest books and decorative accessories on the lower shelves. This not only places the “visual” weight where it belongs but helps anchor the piece. Start loading the bookcase from the bottom and work your way up. Adding smaller books and/or items as you go.
Look for decorative accessories to place in between groupings of books. Accessories should always be placed in groups of one, three or five with the taller items behind. Adding a plant is a nice touch and instantly softens the harsh lines of a typical bookcase. If you do not have a green thumb, purchase a fake plant. There are many beautiful and realistic silk greens available today.
Step back and view your progress as you go. One shelf may hold only books while another showcases family photos. Be creative and view your bookcase as another opportunity to showcase your favorite pieces.
Hope you find this informative and useful! If so, there are several important questions to ask your potential trainer.

First and foremost...
Does the training provide a certificate or certification?
The difference being, many instructors will hand out a "certificate" after the student has been involved with several other people in rearranging a handful of rooms. It doesn't really mean much and is hardly worth the paper it is written on. A "certification" usually requires the student pass some sort of testing procedure to indicate they are knowledgeable in the said field. This means much more.
Will there be actual client contact?
This is very important for the interior redesign student. To observe the instructor interacting with a client is a great learning experience and vital to everyone starting in the business. Not only does the student obtain valuable insight to the process of interior redesign but they get caught up in the excitement of the project reveal!
How many redesign projects will be completed during training?
I learned that the IRIS standard of professionalism in FIVE! This hardly seems like enough but it seemingly is the standard to become a professional. Be wary of instructors that offer less than this as it may be difficult for to join future affiliations to add to your credibility.
What is included in the training and what additional purchases will be needed?
Most instructors include a manual and offer ongoing support. If they offer monthly or quarterly meetings, this is hardly useful if you live out of the instructor's home state. Some do offer teleconferences and web meetings that can be accessed from anywhere. Ask if the course includes any tools...especially business forms and information about starting your own business. Factor into your cost of tuition these additional purchases.
I would like to mention the tuition factor. After researching this alternative decorating field of interior redesign, I discovered that there are no checks and balances. Most training centers are in it only for the money and do not even require testing of their students. Moving around furniture for a few days does not a professional make.
Buyers beware when choosing an instructor in this field.
Author Julie Rieman
Instructor ~The All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Prepare Your Home For Open House by Appealing to the Five Senses

1. Out of sight, out of mind! Hide away anything you would not see in a “model”home. This is especially true regarding trash! Remember to empty all trash bins and remove them from sight. Keep in mind that potential buyers look at everything! A clean property equates a well maintained property that will get offers!
2. Never underestimate the sense of smell. It is important that your property passes the “smell test”. This may be accomplished by using many of the various room fresheners available today. I recommend a long lasting product and prefer the plug-in style. Consider placing one in each room. Place in an inconspicuous area that is not easily noticed by potential buyers.
3. Do you hear what I hear? This is especially important in creating an atmosphere of peacefulness. You do not want potential buyers to hear the furnace turn on or listen to outdoor traffic. Consider playing music that will not offend most people. Rock and Roll is dead as far as your open house goes! We suggest playing soft background music that contains no lyrics.
4. Potential buyers will be touching surfaces in your property. Not intentionally, but because they have to! Be certain that all banisters, handrails, doorknobs and faucets sparkle! You do not want people to “feel” that your home is anything but squeaky clean!
5. I like to suggest leaving a decorative treat filled dish out for potential buyers. You can fill it with various individually wrapped candies. I know it sounds corny but EVERYONE loves chocolate and it will make potential buyers remember and feelgood about your property!
Having appealed to the five senses some other important tips...
CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! This cannot be stressed enough and I mean EVERYTHING! Buyers will look inside your oven, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and everywhere else I might have forgotten to mention. Consider your open house a home inspection performed by an Army drill sergeant! Nothing will be overlooked!
Now if I have not completely terrified you, here is some more advice...
Check for cobwebs that seemingly come from nowhere.Wash all light fixtures so they sparkle like new.Clear any signs of clutter and hide away all personal items.Consider shampooing the carpets for a fresh smelling clean look.Organize and clear clutter from every closet and cabinet... Buyers ALWAYS look inside to determine storage space.Wash windows inside and out. (Pay close attention to window sills and frames.) Buyers will typically inspect every window. Ouch!Place fresh flowers close to the entrance door for a warm welcome. Finally, go out for a nice meal and try to relax during your open house. You have earned it by following these suggestions!
Good Luck! Often times a person will purchase an entire furniture grouping because it is what they see in the furniture showroom. If you think about it, that’s how most high ticket furnishings are marketed. Furniture retailers want to sell you a sofa, love-seat, chair, accent tables and all the lamps in a grouping. The reason for this? They make MORE MONEY and the salespeople get to THINK LESS! This is an example of one size fits all decorating. In some situations this is fine, but It usually lacks character and personality. If you want to create a room that is unique and special...
Here is a list of mistakes you can avoid.

Furnishings that do not fit the room.
This is the most important design element and should be addressed first. Many rooms contain too much "stuff" and make the space appear smaller than it actually is. Measure your room and bring the tape measure with you when shopping for large pieces. (Everything looks smaller in the store!)

Poor furniture placement.
Often large pieces are placed too far apart. This does not create a comfortable, cozy conversation area. Consider creating two intimate seating arrangements in a larger room

The room does not function.
Besides looking good you will want to create a space you can live in. You will need to determine how the room is used and if there are any specific needs of family members or pets. Proper traffic flow is essential. You do not want to create a pattern that constantly walks in front of the television!

Artwork hung too high.
This is quite common. Mirrors should never be in a dark corner. Instead place them adjacent a window. Remember what will be reflected and position items appropriately. Too many pictures on the wall. In this case, less is more. Think about what your favorite pieces are and showcase them! Remember it is a good idea to leave one wall void of accessories to create a resting place for the eye.

Improper lighting.
Often not enough light sources. This is common as many people will purchase two matching lamps and think they have decorated! (remember the furniture showroom?) Essential to a properly lit room are General Lighting, Task Lighting and Accent Lighting.

Stuck in a the past.
Unfortunately, many of us are guilty of this. We may have items that were purchased twenty years ago. This is great if your theme is retro but if not, consider a few inexpensive purchases to update the decor.

White walls.
Many people have a fear of color. They think that white goes with everything or have the mistaken idea that white walls will make the room appear larger. Don’t be afraid to try a bold paint color. It will dramatically change the feel of the room and enhance the decor.
(see selecting the right paint color)

Good Luck and Happy Decorating!
Author Julie Rieman
Instructor ~The All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

How To Select The Right Paint Color EVERYTIME!

Don’t let your fear of color keep you from having a beautiful home!

Painting and Color Selection are the most important elements of a successful decorating project. I am always somewhat surprised when I walk into a home full of beautiful furnishings and see cold stark white walls! White does not go with everything. In fact, white can detract from your wall decor and quite simply looks cold and sterile. Don’t get me wrong, a white on white theme is gorgeous but most people don’t have all white furnishings! Many of my clients have exquisite taste but are terrified of making the wrong color selection when it comes to paint. I have often wondered why... Have you ever heard of a color phobia? It DOES exist, honest! The medical term is Chromophobia or Chromatophobia. The definition states ~ an abnormal fear of color or colors. Obviously this is felt on your subconscious level and you are completely unaware of it. I often thought some of my clients where just “color challenged.” Now I suspect a few may actually have this strange phobia. Of course it stems from childhood. Apparently there is a reason why we are drawn to specific colors while disliking others. We associate favorite color with happy memories and you can guess the rest. I say, ”who cares! Just pick a color you like!”It doesn't cost a penny. They mix it in the paint for FREE! If you struggle with selecting a palette here are a few quick and simple tips. For different colors within an open floor plan you will want to
Select colors within the same light value. Same position on the color palette.
Paint color to inside or outside corners. Never try to create a break in the wall that does not exist architecturally.
Determine a transition area when using bold color. This could be one wall which is painted a neutral color for the eye to rest. (Remember light values)
For a no-fail monochromatic schemes select color two or three shades away from each other on the palette.
Look very carefully at the darkest color on the palette. This is how you will determine the undertone of EVERY color!
ALWAYS bring home a color sample and view it in the room that will be painted! The color will not appear the same under the fluorescent lights in the store
If you have made a mistake in your selection, take the paint back! Ask that they suggest a way to tone it down.
If your color is too dark, you can mix in white paint yourself. (Be certain it is the same sheen). I hope this information is helpful as you begin your next painting project.
Good luck and Happy Painting!
Author Julie Rieman
Instructor ~The All About Redesign Center
www.allaboutredesign.com

Desperate Housewives Color Palettes... "The set is kind of a machine, and it takes a beating over time so it has to be sturdy," explains Walsh. "We need sets that can withstand the wear and tear of the crews and their equipment.
